Volunteers Needed for the CTRA Board

The annual meeting of the College Terrace Residents Association (CTRA) is coming up on Saturday, March 23, at 9:30am at University Lutheran Church (1611 Stanford Ave at Bowdoin). Palo Alto mayor Eric Filseth will give an address and Q&A, residents will elect the 2019-20 CTRA board, and there will be pastries and muffins provided by Khoury’s Market.

We are still looking for volunteers for a few open positions on the CTRA board for 2019-20 – no experience necessary, just an open mind and generous spirit. If you are a College Terrace resident and are interested in serving on the board, please email current CTRA president James Cook, or just come to the meeting and volunteer. It’s a small time commitment and a fantastic opportunity to serve your neighborhood and community.

Here’s a tentative schedule for the annual meeting:

9:30 a.m. Coffee/pastries/socializing with neighbors old and new
10:00 a.m. Welcome and “State of the Terrace” address by current CTRA President James Cook
10:15 a.m. Election of new CTRA board
10:30 a.m. Mayor Eric Filseth’s address followed by Q & A
11:15 a.m. Announcement of election results and appreciation of new board members
11:30 a.m. Meeting ends

Guest Opinion: Stanford Is Quietly Buying Up Houses
CTRA’s Stanford observer, Pria Graves, wrote an op-ed in the Daily Post covering the issues surrounding Stanford’s recent home purchases (30, at last count) in College Terrace.

JPMorgan Chase Opening Campus at Research Park
Following its acquisition of WePay, a Redwood City startup, JPMorgan Chase announced it will build a 195,000-square-foot “fintech” campus at the Stanford Research Park that will house up to 1,000 employees.

First Hydrogen Fuel Station in Palo Alto Opening Soon
The Shell station on El Camino in Barron Park will be the first hydrogen fuel station between Mountain View and South San Francisco.

City Council Candidate Forums Next Week

We’re only a few weeks away from the November 6 elections and there are a number of events coming up to help voters become more familiar with local candidates for Palo Alto City Council. Five candidates–Pat Boone, Alison Cormack, Tom DuBois, Eric Filseth, and Cory Wolbach–are vying for three seats on the council.

The Palo Alto Weekly is hosting a candidate debate at the Little Theatre at Cubberley Community Center on Monday, October 3rd at 7:30pm. The following night (October 4th) at 7pm, Palo Alto Neighborhoods (PAN) is hosting a candidate forum at City Hall moderated by former City Councilwoman LaDoris Cordell. The League of Women Voters of Palo Alto will also hold a candidate forum on October 9th at 7pm at First Congregational Church on Louis Road.

If you can’t make any of those events, be sure to check out PAN’s City Council Candidates Questionnaire, which gathers responses from the candidates on issues ranging from accessory dwelling units (ADUs) to renter protections.
